As you may or may not know, I (Adam) ran the Boston Marathon in 2008 to benefit MassGeneral Hospital's pediatric oncology fundraiser "Fighting Kid's Cancer... One Step at a Time". It was one of the most challenging experiences of my life but also one of the most fulfilling... not only did I have to train all winter to run in one of the toughest marathons in the world, but I had to raise $2,500 for charity in order to have that privilege.
Thanks to encouragement from friends and family I've decided to do it again, for myself and to benefit a very worthy cause. As I mentioned, I had to raise $2,500 in order to stay on the MassGeneral marathon team, and thanks to the help of all my donors I managed to not only meet but exceed that goal. This year I've decided to set the bar a bit higher, and with your help I know I can meet my goal of $5,000.
As someone who has felt the loss of both parents to cancer, this is a cause that is very personal to me and I need your help to meet my goal of $5,000. The MassGeneral Hospital for Children is dedicated to providing not only treatment but superior quality of life programs to child patients and their families. More than just treating, they are working very hard to cure cancer in all of its forms.
Childhood cancer survival rates have increased dramatically in the past 30 years. In the mid-1970s, the survival rate for children with cancer was about 40%. Today it is nearly 80%. MGH is recognized as being one of the best hospitals in the world, in the top 1%, of pediatric service providers in the country.
